The dictionary definition of sacrifice is ―the offering of food, objects or the lives of animals or people to the gods as an act of propitiation or worship.

Child Sacrifice, as defined by Jubilee Campaign and Kyampisi Childcare Ministries, is the act of murdering a child by a witch-doctor or their accomplices in order to use the child‘s blood, organs and/or limbs mixed with herbs and other elements in a ritual witchcraft ceremony. The witch-doctor organises the abduction and sacrifice and this criminal act is undertaken for payment. They convince their client that this ritual murder will make their magical rite more powerful and that it will be able to fulfil their wish of gaining wealth and prosperity.

Child Sacrifice is a relatively recent phenomenon in Uganda. Its origin puzzles many Ugandans as it is not a part of traditional culture in Uganda. A police report in 2009 indicated that most tribes traditionally sacrificed livestock for good luck. In June 2010, a newspaper report stated, ―Sylvia Namutebi (Mama Fina), the chair person of a traditional healers association, says genuine traditional healers sacrifice animals not human beings.

The report by by Jubilee Campaign and Kyampisi Childcare Ministries, studies the concerning phenomen and describes some case studies. Through this analysis, the report looks into the process, the causes and the effects of child sacrifice.
